This memorial website was created to remember our dearest Soul Bams who was born in Cameroon on February 12, 1953 and passed away on December 4, 2009.
A GREAT BAOBAB HAS FALLEN...
Soul Bams catapulted into our lives and just like a lightning flash, he is gone! Everybody knew when he came… Because he took over. He took over the communication, the MCing, the music, the DJ, the dance, and commanded the room. Suddenly everything and everybody became alive because Soul Bams was in the house. And we had no choice but to love his big personality.
Just as he was given to us from Cameroon, through Gabon, to Paris and finally to the USA, he has been taken away from us. One early morning we all woke up to the distressing news that his roll had been called up yonder. What? Yes-he is gone. Leaving all his friends and family to wonder how to fill that void- For it is a big void.
We owe it to him and his family to give him a proper sendoff party. He loved music, he loved dancing, he loved “SHOW”. Let us share one more dance with him.

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
On January 16, 2010 a great Cameroonian-American story was closed as Mahop Mahop Benoit AKA "Soul Bams" was laid to rest at "le Cimetière des Bois de Singes" in Douala, Cameroon.
On behalf of the family and the event Executive Committee (Trustees), I would like to extend our sincere thanks for your expressions of sympathy during our hours of bereavement. Because of your prayers, your help in planning and service efforts, and your generosity through your timely financial contributions, Soul Bams' remains were repatriated to his birthplace Douala, Cameroon where family, friends, and other sympathizers gathered on a sunny Saturday of January 16, 2010 for a befitted send-off and a dignified burial as he had wished for.
We will forever cherish your kindness that you shared with us during our difficult times.
For those of us who loved him, and still ached with his passing, we are truly convinced that Soul Bams is in a better place and now sees his Savior face to face.
May the Soul of Soul Bams rest in perfect peace and may light perpetual shine upon him until we meet again, all weariness gone, clear of mind and smiling again, and the sorrow of his parting gone forever.
